Eva Mendes Teases Possible Return To Hollywood After Decade Away: 'Who Knows?'
Eva Mendes, who hasn’t appeared on the big screen, recently hinted at the possibility of making a return to acting.

Eva Mendes may have stepped away from the big screen for the past decade, but she is still open to a potential return to Hollywood. In a recent appearance on Good Morning America (GMA) to promote her debut children’s book, Desi, Mami and the Never-Ending Worries, Mendes was asked by GMA’s George Stephanopoulos if she would consider making a comeback to acting.

“I don’t know. If there’s interesting roles. I left at a time where, 10 years ago, I kind of felt like I did it, ya know, I just worked with Ryan Gosling. He’s like the best. It was such a high off my career to work with him and what we created together that I was like, this is a good time to Seinfeld it and just walk out. So, who knows?" Mendes said.

Mendes’ acting career was highlighted by roles in films like 2 Fast 2 Furious, Ghost Rider, the Spirit, The Other Guys and many others. In 2012, she starred in crime drama, The Place Beyond the Pines alongside Gosling, who is now her husband. She later took a step back from acting to focus on their two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 7, and pursuing career endeavours. Although she has lent her voice to the Bluey franchise, Mendes hasn’t appeared in movies for a decade. Her last film was Lost River in 2014, a fantasy thriller directed and co-produced by Gosling.

In a March interview on the Today show, Mendes talked about her decision to step back from acting. She described her choice as a “no-brainer," expressing gratitude for the opportunity to spend more time with her children.

“I’m so lucky, and I was like, if I could have this time with my children — and I still work, I just didn’t act, because acting takes you on location. It takes you away. It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, ‘OK, he’s [Gosling] going to work and I’m going to work. I’m just going to work here’," she had said.

Talking about her children’s book, Mendes described it as a story about a young girl and her thoughts. The book follows a girl named Desi, who deals with “never-ending" worries, a theme Mendes revealed personally relates to.

“She tries to work with her brain to kind of like, you know, make sure it’s not being a bully to her by sending all these negative thoughts her way and that it’s being like a BFF to her. And so it’s about that relationship," Mendes added.
