Rudyard Kipling novel ‘Jungle Book’ might be regarded as one of the most loved children's books of all times, but the film which releases in India this Friday, has been given a 'UA' certificate by the Censor Board Of Film Certification(CBFC). As expected, the decision hasn’t gone down well with many.
In an interview to a leading daily, Censor chief Pahlaj Nihalani justified the decision by stating that the film's '3D effects' are extremely 'scary'. This means that children will be able to watch the film only under adult supervision.
"Please don't go by the reputation of the book. See the film and then decide on the suitability of the content for kids. The 3D effects are so scary that the animals seem to jump right at the audience. It's not just the story that determines certification. It's the overall presentation, the packaging and most important of all, the visual affects used to tell the story. In Jungle Book the jungle animals jumping at the audience in 3D is startling. It's up to parents to decide how much of these effects are suited for their children," Nihalani has been quoted as saying in a daily.
Bollywood is up in arms over this decision and many have started asking Nihalani to step down.
