Anjaamai Not A Film That Offers Solutions: Director SP Subburaman
Anjaamai revolves around the travails of students appearing for NEET and their parents.

Director SP Subburaman recently spoke about his upcoming film Anjaamai, which stars Vidharth and Vani Bhojan. SP Subburaman said at a pre-release event that while it is a political drama, it stands out from other films of its kind that offer a solution. Anjaamai revolves around the travails of students appearing for NEET and their parents. The film also features Rahman, Krithik Mohan and Rekha Sivan in prominent roles. When asked if the solution suggested by Anjaamai could have any positive impact at all, as several leading politicians have ruled out the possibility of withdrawing the medical entrance exam, SP Subburaman replied, “Not all films have to offer a solution. Anjaamai is not a film that offers solutions, but one that expresses the pain of parents and students in search of a decent education. Tell me how many times the government has heard of a film that offers a solution to a particular problem.”

Earlier, producer Thirunavukkarasu said in an interview about the film, “Anjaamai does not take sides. Nor does it portray anything as good or bad. Rather, it highlights some truths that crop up in discussions about NEET in society. I graduated MBBS in 1968; I have witnessed the evolution of medical education in India and Tamil Nadu and that is why I felt that this story needs to be told.”

Former IAS officer Balachandran, who plays the role of a judge in the film, termed the film as a reflection of the everlasting struggle of people for justice and fairness in the judicial system. “The film shows what happens when the judicial system is unable to offer a fair solution to a social problem,” he said.

Dispelling the myths circulating in the Tamil industry about actresses’ longevity if they don’t play age-appropriate roles, Vaani Bhojan said if she had turned down her role in Anjaamai citing age, she would not be fit to be an actress. “Initially, people tried to dissuade me from playing a mother of two and insinuated that she would be relegated to just another mother role,” she explained. “I thank Dr Thirunavukkarasu for having the courage to produce a project that is so relevant in today’s times. Acting opposite Vidharth was an enriching experience”, she added.

Developed and produced by Dr M Thirunavukarasu MD, Anjaamai is presented by Dream Warrior Pictures and is scheduled to hit the theatres on June 7.
