Akshay Kumar feels Bollywood needs to make films where India emerges as the 'saviour' of the world
According to Menon the right way to achieve true patriotism is to be aware of things working in our favour.

On Monday, ‘Airlift’ team was in the city to promote the their film. Akshay Kumar's latest is being promoted as the patriotic film of 2016 which will make Indians proud of their country.

Directed by Raja Menon and starring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in lead roles, ‘Airlift’ is based on a true event that took place in Kuwait in 1990. Considering it is releasing few days before Republic Day, IBNLive asked them about what patriotism means to them. “Patriotism is the feeling of identity. It is something we own as ours, and take pride and responsibility for," the helmer of the film, Raja Menon said.

According to Menon the right way to achieve true patriotism is to be aware of things working in our favour. He says, “The biggest problem in India right now is the cynicism. We can’t just blame the government for doing nothing. Government will do things at its own pace but we ourself should start an initiative to make things right at our end for the land we are so proud of. Good things happen we just need to be aware"

Akshay Kumar said, “The story of ‘Airlift’ is one such story where a man negotiates for the lives of above 1 lakh people and government listens. This grand evacuation was so silent at that time that only one article came out in media. I came to know about this incredible real story from Menon and it made me feel proud."

‘Airlift’ is about the Indian evacuation that happened in 1990, when Iraq invaded Kuwait and around 140,000 Indians were put in a dangerous situation.

Shedding more light on Bollywood patriotism Akshay said, “Hollywood has mostly made films where America is the saviour of the world. I want Bollywood to do the same. We should make films where India is the hero, saviour of the world, be it global espionage or alien invasion."

The ‘Baby’ star wants to see a film where India saves Americans from a crisis situation and according to him Kuwait evacuation was one such event where India emerged as a ‘hero’ in reality, ‘Airlift’ just brings that to everyone’s notice.

Nimart Kaur will be seen as Akshay’s supportive and outspoken wife in the film. The film also stars Poorab Kohli and is all set to release on 22 January.
