Actress Smita Jayakar Says She Is Ready To Do Even A 1-minute Role In This Director’s Movie

Actress Smita Jayakar has worked in many hit films and TV shows in her career. She came into the limelight after her role in the iconic 1999 film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, featuring Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan, and Ajay Devgn in the lead roles. The romantic drama film was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and was a huge commercial success and grossed over Rs 510 million. The film was not only a super hit at the box office, but every actor in the film received immense appreciation for their outstanding performances. Smita Jayakar, who played the role of Amrita, Aishwarya Rai’s mother, in the film, shared her working experience in the movie and also said she is ready to do even a 1-minute role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films; her statement is currently garnering everyone’s attention.

The veteran actress shared that she secured the role in the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam for director Bhansali’s mother. His mother was a fan of her work in a TV serial, and she recommended her for the role of Aishwarya’s mother. Despite initial doubts due to director Bhansali’s previous film’s failure, Jayakar embraced the opportunity, recognising his unique vision and dedication to his work.

She also said that Bhansali is a visionary filmmaker and is unique for his unparalleled attention to detail and commitment to every aspect of the production. She also recalled during the interview that while shooting Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, director Bhansali had given her 20 sarees and told her to choose the one she liked. Smita Jayakar said, “I could not understand that no director had ever given me so much importance in my life. I have not met a director like him in my entire career. To be honest, I am such a big fan of his that I will always be ready to do even a 1-minute role in his film.”

Lastly, she also shared with her co-star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Smita Jayakar added the actress’s ethereal presence on set and the chemistry she shared with Salman Khan contributed to the film’s success.

As per reports, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is based on Rashtriyashayar Jhaverchand Meghani’s play Shetal ne Kathe. The film tells the story of a newlywed man, who finds his wife is in love with another man and seeks to bring them together.
