Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said the degradation of language and conduct is visible in the state’s politics, while accusing the ruling BJP of hating farmers. On his visit to Varanasi on Saturday to pay tributes to Sant Ravidas on his birth anniversary, Yadav said, “Accusations and counter-accusations can have no place in this. Those in politics should be especially careful and maintain the dignity of public life. However, the language and behaviour demonstrated in the Assembly will destroy the dignity of democratic beliefs. Demonstration of monopoly mentality in a democracy is extremely unfortunate and undesirable.”
Speaking on the issue of farmers’ protest, SP chief said, “It is beyond understanding why BJP hates farmers? Farmers have been protesting for months on their demand. So far, the central government has not taken any step towards resolving the problem by negotiating with the farmers. The BJP has also forgotten the promise of its resolution letter. The BJP is enraged when the public representatives raise questions about the problems of the public and ask the BJP for answers about their promises. Why does BJP shy away from facing the public? The BJP, which scares the public, is now scared before going to the polls itself.”
“In a democracy, people have the ultimate power and their votes make or break governments. Ignoring the public in terms of power will not be good for the BJP. The days of the BJP government in the state are also few. In 2022, when people will announce their decision in favor of the Samajwadi Party, the BJP will not even find a place to hide,” added Yadav.
Hitting out at the Yogi Adityanath-led government in the state, the former CM said, “Misuse of power by the chief minister and the kind of language he is using is indicative of the superficial ego. The public is watching everything. The real face of the BJP’s character from the house to the road has been revealed. The Samajwadi Party is the alternative to the BJP. In 2022, the outrage of the public, farmers and youth is going to outweigh the BJP.”
