Speaking exclusively to IBNLive.com, the designer talks about his new collection and the overwhelming response he received at Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015 for his beautiful mirror work.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

You have been associated with Indian Bridal Fashion Week since its inception. How has the journey been?

Indian Bridal Fashion Week has gotten bigger and better. It has become a seven city tour. What’s exciting for us as designers is that we are not just getting to do shows in Mumbai, Delhi but also get to do shows in other cities. I mean for me to do a seven city tour on my own, with my bridal collection, with models, ramp, stage and paraphernalia, it becomes almost an impossible feat. It is exciting to see the Indian fashion is attracting the international brand. The bridal market is so huge that all the international brands want to seep into that.

What new can we expect this time?

We are doing the finale this year. We are working very hard and it is going to be quite elaborate. So we are looking a lot of the Mughal era and Ottoman Empire that is the inspiration for the collection. The collection is almost like looking at an old Ottoman Empire tapestry. All the accessories are actually handmade in the studio. Look at all the Topka museum and you realize how beautiful it is.

What are the various shades that you have used?

The Ottoman Empire introduced the Persian blue to the world. Therefore all the shades of blue. You can see a lot of sage green, beige, navy, grey. There will be a lot of bridal collection that will be mostly maroon and red.

Your mirror work creation showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week was mesmerising. What sort of response did you receive from the people?

For me nothing is half hearted. If I am in love I am totally. I was in london doing a trunk show. And there a lot of Indian girls came to me showing the mirror work that I showcased on their Instagram account, asking me to make something like this. I am really tempted to do the mirror work again. The fact that mirror work didn’t just work for India but everywhere in the world.

What's your reaction?
