A new report shows that bookings for ski vacations are on the rise this year compared to last, with growth recorded for US and Canadian ski destinations this winter.

That's according to a new report out of the Airlines Reporting Corp. which looked at air ticket purchases made through US travel agencies for flights to top ski destinations in North America.

Overall ticket purchases made during peak ski season -- November 2016 through to March 2017 -- rose nine percent versus the same period in 2015-2016.

That figure spikes to 10 percent for travel to ski destinations in December alone.

Travel booked to smaller airports near ski destinations with less than 20,000 passengers per month, saw a six percent growth compared to 2015.

Meanwhile, Gunnison, Colorado saw the most growth in interest with a 22 percent spike in air travel bookings thanks to resorts like Crested Butte Mountain Resort and Monarch Ski Area.

Here are the top 15 ski destinations based on December growth:

Gunnison, Colorado (21.6 percent)

Hailey-Sun Valley, Idaho (17 percent)

Vancouver, British Columbia (12.3 percent)

Jackson Hole, Wyoming (12.1 percent)

Denver, Colorado (11.6 percent)

Salt Lake City, Utah (10 percent)

Vail/Eagle, Colorado (9.4 percent)

Burlington, Vermont (8 percent)

Montrose, Colorado (7.7 percent)

Aspen, Colorado (7.6 percent)
