Satin ribbons inspire Dior's new watch line for Baselworld 2016

As the world jewelry and watch fair opens in Basel, Switzerland, March 17, Dior has presented a new line of watches set to launch in May. The new "La D de Dior Satine" range is a couture collection of seven sophisticated timepieces.

The originality and elegance of this new watch collection lies in the stylish straps. Victoire de Castellane, creative director of Dior's fine jewelry, imagined this range as "a ribbon that tells the time," finding inspiration in satin ribbons.

This sees the "La D de Dior Satine" range adorned with Milanese mesh straps made from steel, plus yellow and rose gold, evoking the shimmer and shine of a fabric made from metal. What's more, the choice of materials channels Dior's signature shades of gray, pink and gold.

Matching steel with rose and yellow gold also pays homage to Christian Dior, who considered gray to be the most elegant of neutral colors and associated pink with happiness and femininity.

The seven models in the "La D de Dior Satine" collection use a quartz movement with hours and minutes functions.

The collection includes 19mm and 25mm watches. The French label has designed three watches with 19mm steel cases, with gray, pink or white mother-of-pearl dials, as well as a 19mm rose gold model and a 19mm yellow gold watch. These are accompanied by two 25mm steel-cased models with dials in white or black mother of pearl.

Watches in the "La D de Dior Satine" collection will be priced from €4,400 to €26,000.

The Baselworld world watch and jewelry fair runs March 17 to 24 in Basel, Switzerland.
