Hungry for street food, Delhi?
Get ready for an exciting culinary journey as National Street Food Festival returns this weekend and brings to all food connoisseurs a diverse swath of street foods from different parts of the country. Since the festival features stands, pop-ups and kiosks of vendors from 26 states, there will be absolutely no dearth of deals to be had.
Arvind Singh, coordinator of NASVI, sounds upbeat as he tells us how the event will be lauded for putting forth several original, lost recipes and giving the guests interesting street food insights. “It is a food event you wouldn’t want to miss. With close to 500 vendors setting up their stalls, you can expect an incredible range of street food. To ensure all the guests find an unforgettable experience at the event, we have invited interesting and even extraordinary food items from Hyderabad, Ittawa, Bhuvneshwar, Varanasi Guwahati, Chennai, Mysore and Bangalore.”
Whether you decide to cool down with a tangy, chilled chuski halfway through your culinary experience, or want to make a quick pit stop for a post meal dessert with Nariyal Ladoo/Pani Pitha, or satiate your spicy craving with Mawa Kachori and Daalchand Ka Allo Tikki - Delhi Street Food Festival will offers countless options for you to quash your hunger.
And yes, also help many know more about the lost, treasured recipes to serve the most scrumptious foods.
“With the festival we are also making a sincere effort to help people get familiar with dishes they might not be aware of. And while we do that, we also put a special focus on delicacies that gained popularity after being featured in the festival,” he adds.
Since street food vending has also become a critical health issue and a matter of great concern for many, NASVI has decided to make the vendors undergo a special training to avoid customers’ inconvenience. An alarming rise in food-borne infections, an outcome of several wayside food vendors mushrooming in every nook and corner of the city, also makes one more serious about basic safety and hygiene issues.
“Before we talk about contamination of food, we need to understand the factors that are resulting in the same. Street food vendors should be given proper place, told about essence of hygienic food to ensure what is offered is safe. In most parts of our country, they all reel under the fear of losing their income. Kabhie ko unka khana utha leta hai, unhein dikat deta hain. We have also invited senior authorities such as Municipal bodies, National School of Nutrition, WHO, and Food safety bodies to be part of the event. Before the festival kicks off on Friday, we will also be conducting a special training session for vendors where they will be explained the need for nutritious food, cooking standards, and basic hygiene practice.”
With a rough estimate of 40,000 guests being expected to throng the venue this weekend, the organizers have also decided to rope in more performers. The festival atmosphere will continue with long-forgotten performances by acrobats, jugglers, road-side magic performers and many more activities like live cooking sessions and discussions on nutritious food to keep the visitors busy.
“We haven’t neglected the entertainment factor. We have roped in roadside magicians, and several other performers we neglect. All to ensure there is something interesting for everybody to feel entertained.”
So no matter for what reason - be it hunger, cravings, or mood management - you dig into scrumptious food, National Street Food Festival is one event you can't afford to be miss. Be there!
