In view of the growing threats from Khalistani terror groups to Indian officials who have worked in tackling Pro-Khalistani Entities, the government is likely to enhance the security cover for these officials.
An analysis by a central intelligence agency has found that few officials are facing threats from Khalistani groups. Recently, two key officials, former R&AW chief Samant Goel and former NIA chief Dinkar Gupta, have been given Z category security cover. The CRPF is now providing security cover to these two former top officials who retired a few weeks back.
The two top officials received security cover after separate threat perception reports suggested a direct threat from terror groups, mainly from Pro-Khalistani Entities.
The two officials have worked on denting the nexus of PKEs and have headed hypersensitive positions. While the NIA is probing various cases filed by the central agency against Khalistani terror groups, the former R&AW Chief’s name has already been dragged by international media for an alleged attempt to assassinate Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Sources have confirmed to News18 that there are officers working in India who are facing threats from Khalistani groups. Their security cover will be reviewed soon and may be upgraded. Though a meeting to discuss the issue was scheduled for the first week of May, it got postponed.
Pro-Khalistani Entities have already been threatening various Indian diplomats in Canada, the UK, and issuing warnings through violent protests and social media.
These entities have become more aggressive after the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a wanted terrorist who was shot dead last year in June. Later, three men were charged with killing Nijjar, triggering a diplomatic crisis between Canada and India.
The face of Pro-Khalistani Entities, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who is also wanted, almost every week through social media, openly threatens Indian diplomats in Canada and the UK.
