It is said that former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has intensified his efforts to get the state BJP president post. A day after making his follower and Excise Minister M P Renukacharya speak for him, the Lingayat strongman on Friday held a meeting with his supporting ministers at his Dollars Colony residence.
In the meeting, according sources, it was decided to put pressure on the party high command to get Yeddyurappa the state BJP president’s post. The Yeddyurappa camp is said to be adopting the same strategy with which it dethroned former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda. The camp may play the Lingayat card besides painting a picture before the party high command that it will be difficult to win the next year’s Assembly elections without Yeddyurappa’s leadership.
This apart, the meeting also discussed Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar’s proposed plan to reshuffle portfolios as demanded by the dissident MLAs led by Municipal Administration Minister Balachandra Jarkiholi. Jarkiholi and his team is eying on portfolios like industry, water resources, energy which are now held by ministers of Yeddyurappa camp.
The state BJP core committee is meeting on Saturday to discuss the issue besides finalising three names to be nominated to the Upper House. Shettar met Yeddyurappa on Friday evening and tried to convince him on the need to reshuffle
portfolios.
‘BSY May Launch Party’
The outburst of former CM B S Yeddyurappa against his own party government in state Assembly was the rehearsal of launching his own political party in the future, said former CM Dharam Singh. Speaking to reporters in Gulabarga, Singh said, “It is uncommon to see any person embarrassing his own party, If he does so there must be a hidden agenda.”
