KOCHI: The Heart Care Foundation is all set to observe World Heart Day. On Sunday the foundation will organise a one-day programme in association with the Cardiological Society of India (Kerala Chapter) and the Lisie Heart Institute at Gangothri Hall.There will be a free blood test from 8 am to 9.30 am. A group of training programme on basic life support will be inaugurated by Ernakulam Range IG R Sreelekha, along with City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar at 10 am. About 100 police personnel from Kochi and suburban areas will attend the training programme. Students and public can also attend the life-saving exercise. ‘Hridaysamgamam,’ aimed at post surgical patients who will be able to clear doubts about future living and intake of medicines, is another major part of the initiative. The programme to be held at 2 pm will have a couple of expert doctors attending it. Also, there will be painting competitions for students, related to the Heart Day. There will be classes on heart-healthy cooking skills. State Human Rights Commission chairman Justice Benjamin Koshy will be the chief guest at the valedictory function to be held at 4 pm. Dr K Vinodan, chief anaesthetist, Medical Trust Hospital,Kochi, will be given the Foundation’s annual life-time achievement award, which consists of a gold medal and a citation.The message of the World Heart Day is ‘One World, One Home, One Heart,’ said the organisers - Dr Jose Chacko Periappuram, chairman, Heart Care Foundation, Fr Paul Moonjeli, director, Lisie Hospital and Dr Jabir Abdulla Kutty, secretary, Cardiological Society of India (Kerala Chapter).
