Mumbai: Parents of a 26-year old woman in Khar area of Mumbai locked her for two years in a room after a tantrik told them she is 'possessed'.
It all started when Neetu's aunt passed away two years ago and then her uncles started falling ill. The family contacted a tantrik, who told them that the aunt's 'ghost' has entered Neetu's body and that the 'ghost' is now taking revenge on the family. The tantrik said if the ghost has to be controlled, then Neetu has to be locked in a room.
Once, a maid working in the neighbourhood saw Neetu in confinement while vermilion, turmeric and rice were offered to her to appease the 'ghost'.
Neighbours of the family finally contacted the police after all their efforts at rescuing the girl from the custody failed. Accompanied by a counsellor and a psychiatrist, police from Santa Cruz station rescued the girl from her captivity on Friday.
Police sources told IBN7 that Neetu is in such a bad condition that she is not even ready to come out in daylight.
Neetu has a 25-year-old brother while her father is an architect.
