It feels great to be an Indian. But how do we sustain the feeling? It feels great to hear ‘Oh you Indians are so intelligent’ but what have we really learnt about ourselves as Indian souls, and as a nation with an ancient soul. As we turn 60, I turned to my Tarot cards for answers not just for me as an Indian but for all of us everywhere, connected by a special something that makes us uniquely Indian.
What do we as Indians need to learn as we turn 60?
To be Indian is to have a certain something about us that no one else can replicate on this planet but us, and us alone. It is a certain energy force that comes with living in a nation that has witnessed so much over the past thousand years and is still ready for more.
The Page of Pentacles represents what makes us unique as Indians. A young, curious child, secure in the knowledge that he is loved and eager to explore and experiment this youth is watchful, studious and pragmatic. To elaborate this fact we know we are rooted and grounded by our families.
It began in all of us as babies, rocked by our mothers and pampered by our grandparents. Loved as children by family and strangers alike, Indian children grow up feeling secure in the love of our people.
Other aspects of our uniqueness lies in the importance that education is given to all of us. We have all slogged and sweated for our exams, and we all know that is what sets us apart from others. Knowledge is power and at a young age we Indians got a feel of it.
The reversed Hermit indicates enforced isolation and that is the lesson we have learned from our past. For too long as a nation we hid our true talents and our potential and we shunned all things foreign. Today we realise that is no longer applicable in today’s world. We need the world and the world needs us. No longer is the time for us to withdraw from the world, in fact it is time for all of us to take small steps towards bigger, better things, slowly and surely.
We still need to learn the lessons denoted by the reversed Page of Wands a youth who is sometimes a little reckless, sometimes a little too easily disappointed, who blames others for his own follies and is easily bored by the drudgery of details and routine.
In all our uniqueness we still need to learn patience, forethought and most importantly how to sustain our motivation and enthusiasm levels through even the most difficult and the most boring times. Not giving up half way is the key for all us Indians, in whatever we do.
Our best way forward lies in the reversed Chariot, which speaks of our own fears of failure which prevent us from giving our own best shot. Sometimes we sabotage our own attempts at success and sometimes we don’t begin a risky new venture out of fear that it will all fall to pieces.
The key to this card lies in believing in ourselves, our uniqueness and talent. And the vital key lies in facing our own fears of falling flat on our faces, being the object of ridicule and losing face. If we can dream it, we can do whatever we set out to do. We need to believe and we need to learn that mistakes are opportunities for future success.
Eventually as a nation and for all of us Indians the Queen of Pentacles who I always refer to us as Lakshmi is ours for the asking. The Goddess of Abundance reminds us that there is enough joy and prosperity for everyone to share. Prosperity and success is part of the India Rising but it will take time and faith that it will indeed happen. Part of success involves taking people forward with us and thanking all those who propel us forward with inspiration and hope.
To summarise the reading it’s clear that India is rising and the more we believe in our innate talents and our potential the faster we will reach our pinnacle. Now is the time for learning and for adopting the attitude of fearlessness. By mastering our own inner fears of failure we can soar up into the skies and leave our imprints up on the stars.
