Kolkata: The police claim to have cracked the parcel bomb case in Howrah, in which a woman journalist was killed. The police have arrested three men, identified as Abhishek Roy, Bishwajit Majhi, and Shubhankar Das. The alleged mastermind, identified as Debashish Dey is still at large.
Two police teams have been dispatched to Bangalore and Mumbai to search for Debashish. The police say the motive was revenge since the target, journalist Chaitali Santra, had given evidence in a marital dispute case against main accused Dey.
After his arrest, Dey met contract killer Shubhankar Das in jail and paid him Rs 2 lakh rupees to kill Chaitali. Shubhankar Das organised the murder. His aide Bishwajit Majhi made the bomb and he hired two people to deliver it.
The police have recovered a mobile phone, an ATM card and the bike which was used to deliver the parcel. Chaitali, living in the Howrah district of West Bengal, was killed in September 2012 when a parcel bomb that had been couriered to her exploded. She had died on the spot while her husband had received critical injuries.
