New Delhi: Fresh clashes were reported between jawans of the Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) and Counter Insurgency Force (CIF) at Salua in West Midnapore district of West Bengal after an EFR jawan's daughter was allegedly molested by a CIF personnel.

The victim has filed a complaint at Kharagpur police station on Thursday. According to reports, EFR jawans and CIF personnel clashed over the issue. The police resorted to lathi-charge and lobbed tear gas shells.

Sources said that EFR personnel opened fire but there were no reports of any injuries so far.

The daughter of a securityman of the EFR was returning after tuition when a jawan of the CIF allegedly taunted her.

EFR jawans blocked roads obstructing movement of CIF officers' car demanding punishment of the culprit jawan, the sources said, adding some of the officers were also gheraoed.

Tension gripped the area till late in the evening when a meeting between officers of the two forces resolved that steps would be taken so that such incidents do not recur.

On the punishment of the CIF jawan who allegedly teased the girl, the sources said it would be decided by CIF higher officials.

Altogether, 20 personnel of CIF had been injured during a clash between EFR and CIF jawans which followed an allegation of misbehaviour by CIF with some women at a fair at the EFR headquarters at Salua on the night of February 24.

Salua houses the headquarters of all three battalions of EFR, which was raised in 1907, while anti-Maoist force CIF was set up last year on the lines of the Greyhounds in Andhra Pradesh.
