Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most important festivals in the country. The 10-day celebration is carried out with much pomp and zeal. The whole country is gearing up for the festivities to commence from September 7. People are decking up their houses to install the idol of the lord. In Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru, few devotees have decided to celebrate the festival differently. The floods and landslides that struck Wayanad have deeply affected the citizens of the country. Many victims are still displaced, others are still recuperating from the tragedy that struck them. The deeply affected Ganpati devotees of Chikkamagaluru decided to not install the idol of Lord Ganesha. Dr Rajkumar Fans’ Youth Group of Chikkamagaluru, which is known for their grand Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations every year, decided to observe the festival by helping out the victims of the Wayanad disaster.
For the last two decades, the Dr Rajkumar Fans’ Youth Group has been installing the Ganesha idol with utmost grandeur at Gateway to Chikkamagaluru. While the entire city celebrates the festival with pomp in places like Vijayapura, Rampura, and the Hindu Mahasabha, it was Dr Rajkumar Fans’ celebrations that always stood out. This time, they have officially announced that they would be offering their support for Wayanad victims, by putting up a banner saying that they will not be installing the idol this year. Apart from this, the group has also decided to donate the funds which they collected previously to the victims of the Wayanad tragedy.
Previously, during the Kodagu disaster in 2018, the group had taken a similar approach then as well. They did not install the Ganesha idol and extended help to the victims. Now, they have expressed their solidarity for the victims of Wayanad. Their approach has earned them praise from the devotees who also admired the group’s compassionate gesture. The residents of the city have also expressed their appreciation saying that their group’s actions will please the Lord.
