PARADIP: Agitation by people of Nuagaon and Gadakujang was called off on Saturday after the district administration promised to fulfil their demands by August 24. Besides, the administration promised to provide contractual work to the unemployed youths of the area in the construction work for Poscoproject.Protesting delay in the renewal of the Posco MoU, transfer of the RDC (central), alleged non-payment of daily wages to unemployed youths provided with job cards by a construction agency, the villagers had been staging agitation since Wednesday.To sort out the issue, administration called for a meeting where it was decided that the demands of villagers would be fulfilled after the RPDAC meeting on August 24. The demands include employment to one person from each affected family, drafting local contractors for construction work for Posco, hike in compensation rate and measurement of betel vines from stay-to- stay instead of fence to fence. After the assurance, the villagers allowed resumption of ancillary and construction works for the project.
