BHUBANESWAR: A junior engineer (JE) of Jatni block was found to have amassed assets estimated at a whopping Rs 2.7 crore when the Bhubaneswar Division of the State Vigilance cracked down on him on Monday. Satya Ranjan Mishra, the JE in question, has been in service for 14 years. After the anti-corruption wing received allegations about him accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, a team searched his premises in Bhubaneswar, Dharmasala and Jatni simultaneously. Mishra’s movable assets were estimated at Rs 95.97 lakh which included three cars, gold ornaments worth Rs 13.96 lakh, bank deposits of Rs 19.09 lakh and other investments in policies estimated at `Rs15 lakh. Besides, the Vigilance sleuths also seized ` 27.41 lakh from his possession, Vigilance SP Amrita Dash said on Monday. It was the JE’s fixed assets - numbering at least 13 - which left the sleuths surprised. Mishra’s total immovable assets were valued at ` 1.73 crore and he had managed to acquire property in New Delhi as well as in Kolkata apart from possessing several such houses and plots in the State. His triple-storey building at Dumduma was valued at ` 92 lakh while he has a flat at Seven Hills Estate in New Delhi which is estimated at ` 14.51 lakh. Mishra owned two plots at Shastri Nagar with a combined value of ` 8 lakh, one flat at Premashree Real Estate in Puri which is estimated at ` 12 lakh. He also owns as well paid advance for four shops in different upcoming projects by Unitech and Cosmopolis whose combined value was ` 30 lakh. Besides, Mishra paid an advance of ` 13 lakh to own a flat at Cosmopolis and another ` 1.37 lakh at Kolkata’s Somnath Estate. He has three plots in Puri’s Bhagirathipur Mouza and another one in Jagamara. The anti-corruption wing is still assessing if Mishra has more wealth in his possession. A case will be registered against the junior engineer soon.
