Verdict on Dawood's mall today
A special court in Mumbai is likely to deliver the verdict on the Sara Sahara mall case on June 11.

New Delhi: Sara Sahara mall, a shopping centre in Mumbai, allegedly owned by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim had received demolition orders by the Supreme Court in July 2006. The demolition orders were however deferred then, due to lack of adequate security.

The complex is built on a plot of land owned by Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and was illegally built in connivance with municipal officials, according to police.

The Bombay High Court had earlier upheld the order of a lower court allowing demolition of illegal complex allegedly set up by the don.

The tenants of the complex filed an appeal in the Supreme Court, which upheld the High Court order.

In April 2007, a former Assistant Commissioner of Mumbai police, Shankar Kamble told a Mumbai court that, the Maharashtra PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal asked him to go slow in a case related to the Sara Sahara Shopping complex.

A special court is likely to deliver the verdict on the Sara Sahara illegal construction case on June 11.The CPWD meanwhile has filed an application claiming rights over the land.

The case had exposed alleged links between Mumbai civic body officials and underworld elements.
