Uttarakhand: Villagers get torn clothes as part of relief material

Guptkashi: Torrential rains, flash floods and landslides have killed many people and destroyed infrastructure in Uttarakhand, Even 18 days after the deluge 600 people are still stuck in Pithoragarh. Rescue operations are affected in the area due to heavy rains while search for thousands missing continue in the state.

While on the other hand is several areas disaster victims have been distributed torn clothes as part of relief material. The villagers allege that they have got torn and worn out clothes which they cannot wear.

Rudrapur village is about 6-7 km from Guptkashi and its residents are shocked to see the relief goods. The village has no electricity or water supply and is left with collapsed houses and buildings. At least 12 people from the village were killed in Kedarnath.

The villagers are short of edible items and drinking water but have been forced to raise their voice against the poor quality of relief material.

Every village in the area is facing similar problems.Kalimathi village is 13 km from Guptkashi and 20 of its people have died in the deluge. The village head has been given the relief material and he is busy preparing the list of those affected. Even other villages which are 10 km away have to collect the relief material from him. But the relief material has only biscuits are part of food and not rice, wheat or dal.

Lakshman Singh, village head of Kotma, says they don't want these goods. He added they can't go 10 km to pick up biscuit packets.
