Lucknow: Believe it or not, nearly 10 per cent of Class X and Class XII students set to take Board exams in UP, have opted out as it will be tough for them to employ unfair means while taking the exam.
This is following the strictness in holding the ongoing examination for the Uttar Pradesh matriculation and higher secondary board.
UP Secondary board accounts for 46 lakh examinees for the 10th and 12th board examinations – the largest in the world.
At least 4.47 lakh students have opted out of the process, due to the strictness against mass copying and refusal to entertain the fake students.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, state secondary education minister Rangnath Mishra said 141 FIRs had been lodged against the people opting illegal means in the exams.
He said 48,500 students alone in Ghazipur district had quit examination, while 14,000 out of the total 86,928 examinees were not attending the exams in Aligarh.
The fear of being caught in the ongoing UP Board examinations forced near about 49,000 students to quit exams in Ballia alone, where almost 1.95 lakh candidates were to take the test.
The minister said till date, over 2,000 examinees had been caught using unfair means, while examinations cancelled at 30 centres in Ghazipur, Kushinagar, Basti, Jaunpur, Deoria, Mau, Mathura, Hatras, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Kaushambi, Allahabad and Lucknow.
Though admitting that still there are several lapses in conducting the examinations, he said efforts were being made to conduct free and fair exams and a clear message had been given that the BSP government was committed to take action against the mafias involved in damaging the education system in the state.
