New Delhi: The Chairman and the Managing Directors (MDs) of Unitech – a real estate giant - were given three days of interim bail on Monday.
Earlier in the day, the Unitech officials were sent to 14-day Judicial Custody (JC) by a Delhi court in an alleged cheating cases filed by the investors.
Those who were sent to the JC and later given interim bail are: Unitech Chairman Ramesh Chandra, MDs Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra. The Director Minoti Bahri too was sent to JC till January 25.
Soon after the dismissal of their bail pleas, Unitech's counsel Vijay Aggarwal, approached the District Judge seeking bail. Based on fresh appeal, they were given three days interim bail in the alleged cheating case.
The complaints Sanjay Kalra (a chartered accountant) and his business partner Devesh Wadhwa claimed that they had booked a property in Habitat Apartments in Greater Noida developed by Unitech Ltd.
It was learnt that the company failed to give them possession on time. Later they filed a case in the court, which asked the company officials to refund them the amount.
Sources said, despite court's order, Unitech has not refunded them the complete payment.
During hearing, the court denied them bail even after the Unitech officials appeared in the court with their bail pleas. They requested the court for some relief claiming that due to acute financial crises they were unable to make the payment to the complainant.
The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Gaurav Rao refused to give them bail and said, "All the bail applications dismissed. Accused should be sent to judicial custody till Jan 25."
However, the officials managed to get interim bail in the case.
