A head constable attached to the Indian Reserve Battalion allegedly committed suicide by hanging in government family quarters in Kalaburagi city.

A head constable Annarao Saibanna Gamaga (50), attached to the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), allegedly committed suicide by hanging in government family quarters in Kalaburagi city on Friday.

The family members of Annarao found him hanging in the hall of the police quarters and alerted the police.

It was learnt that he was promoted to head constable in 2015 and was transferred to the IRB. However, he was reportedly not happy with his transfer.

His family members claimed that he was mentally upset for the past few days after his application for transfer was not taken into consideration, police sources said.

Incidentally eight other constables who were transferred along with Annarao were successful in getting transfer back to Kalaburagi few days back, sources in the police department said.

This is the third cop suicide case in Karnataka in less than a month.
