United Nations: After reports of UN peacekeepers and civilian staff raping and abusing children in southern Sudan were published in The Daily Telegraph of London, four Bangladeshi peacekeepers were sent back home after they were found guilty.
The four men have been found guilty of misconduct, including sexual misconduct by the UN investigators, news agency PTI quoted the world body as saying.
The UN spokesperson did not give exact charges, but said the UN has requested Dhaka to prosecute them.
PTI quoted her saying that the UN is trying to determine if and what action the government has taken against them.
The UN investigators are also investigating 13 other cases of misconduct.
Under the agreement with troop contributing countries, the UN can only send back the peacekeepers found guilty of misconduct but has no power to take action against them.
After emergence of several of cases of sexual misconduct, the world body has been pressing the countries to prosecute under the national laws their personnel found to have indulged in misconduct with a promise to cooperate.
But so far, the prosecution has been undertaken in a very few cases.
