Two sub-inspectors of police were placed under suspension in North Chennai in connection with two separate incidents on Saturday. Police sources said sub-inspector Ravichandran of RK Nagar police station and SI Sobith Kumar of New Washermanpet were suspended from service.
Chinnaraj (24), a tailor from Ezhil Nagar, Korukkupet was robbed of Rs 1,500 cash and mobile phone worth Rs 7,000, and was beaten up by miscreants two days ago. He then went to RK Nagar police station to lodge a complaint when SI Ravichandran asked him to first treat his injuries and lodge the complaint the next day. Meanwhile, a special team arrested two alleged robbers, Sridhar (27) and Prabhakar (22) of Nehru Nagar. Inquiries revealed that they had robbed Chinnaraj.
When asked about the delay in filing the complaint, Chinnaraj told the police team that he had come the previous day to lodge a complaint but was sent away by the SI, police sources said. Senior police officials took action against Ravichandran and suspended him.
In another incident, SI Devan from New Washermanpet rushed to deal with a few drunk men in a residential quarters when he was allegedly assaulted. SI Sobith Kumar, who was on duty at the police station, reportedly did not inform senior officials about it. He was placed under suspension, police said.
