Mumbai: The Indian Idol Grand Finale is here again and unlike previous years, two girls and one guy will battle it out for the top spot.
Kapil Thapa an Army man is not a trained singer and realised his talent after joining the Army. In fact his family didn't even know till last year that their boy could sing. Influenced by Indian Idol 3, Kapil popularly known as the singing soldier participated in an orchestra contest where his band won the first prize.
"It's been like a dream. Standing in a queue from 4:30 in the morning, don't know about food or water, among thousands of people and most of them good singers. I used to wonder whether I would ever get selected. When I auditioned, I sang two songs and all the judges loved them," says he.
The petite Sourabhee too doesn't have any formal training in music, but she always dreamt of being a rockstar and today her powerful stage performances have earned her the title - Indian Shakira.
"After joining Indian Idol I got so many things I used dream of, getting close friends and even a special friend so I feel great. This was the most important decision of my life," says she.
Torsha from Asansole in West Bengal is currently completing her BSc. A student of classical music since third grade, Torsha says her father has been her biggest support and encouraged her to audition for Indian Idol even before she completed her graduation.
"I always wanted to do this. Now I've reached the top three. I never expected that," says Torsha.
Apart from being a talent hunt, the reality show has also served as a match maker of sorts for Kapil and Sourabhee.
"I have no problem when people tease me with Kapil, because love starts from friendship only. I just scold him all the time while dancing or performing also. I scream don't do this, lip sync properly, bring out your attitude, please smile, so stuff like that. We are really good friends and we are so close that everyone loves us as a couple. From the start we used to hang out together, eat together so we were known as the cute couple. I quite like that because at least that way I'm called cute," says Sourabhee.
So will Indian Idol 4 make history by selecting a female Idol for the first time? only Sunday will tell.
