The Uttar Pradesh police have arrested two youngsters on charges of rape and attempted murder of a 21-year-old woman, who alleged she was thrown off an overbridge when she threatened to report the crime. However, some officials have contradicted the woman’s version and said the woman visited a friend’s house on her own .
The woman is a resident of a village under Gaurihar police station in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh. She was staying with her mother at her maternal grandfather’s house in Banda, Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday night, a 20-year-old from Naraini town, who was known to the victim, lured her into an e-rickshaw and took her to his friend’s residence at Babulal Chauraha, according to the complainant.
After reaching his friend’s residence, he along with his 21-year-old friend, allegedly raped the woman. According to reports, the youths threatened the victim when she protested against it. As he was supposedly taking her back home on the following morning, an argument erupted on the Kalukuan overbridge. During this confrontation, one of the accused allegedly pushed the victim off the bridge.
However, police have challenged the victim’s account of the events. He stated that the girl had voluntarily visited her friend’s room and that she jumped from the overbridge after an argument broke out in the wee hours of Monday.
The police’s statement is supported by a video circulating on social media, which shows that the girl is leaving her house alone at 11:21 PM on Sunday, locking it from the outside. The investigation is underway as authorities investigates to resolve the discrepancies in the case and seek justice for the victim.
