BANGALORE: The state government is open to resuming buying of tur from farmers in Gulbarga through the Tur Development Board (TDB), PWD Minister C M Udasi told the Legislative Council here on Monday.Replying to a question from Leader of Opposition of the Council C Motamma and others, on behalf of Agriculture Minister Umesh Katti, Udasi said tur purchase from farmers in Gulbarga was stopped due to losses incurred by TDB due to unstable market prices.“Moreover, small and marginal farmers are not being benefited.It was decided by the board to temporarily suspend the purchase of tur from farmers,” Udasi said.He said the TDB bought tur at Rs 4,000 per quintal by utilising Rs 1.70 crore available in its account apart from Rs 10 crore released by a state government grant.“The tur so bought by the board was utilised for mid-day meals scheme.” Udasi said the government will consider resumption of tur purchase from farmers in Gulbarga, keeping interests of all stake holders in mind.
