GULBARGA: The state government has proposed to desilt the Tungabhadra (TB) Project at the earliest, said Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai.Addressing the media here on Tuesday, he said that desilitng was not done in the TB Dam for over 30 years. It is expected that about 28 TMC of salt has accumulated in the project. Tenders for desiliting the TB Project was called last year, and was cancelled as it elicited a poor response. This time, some companies, including steel majors, have come forward to take up desilting using modern technology, the minister elucidated.The silt has to be brought from the middle of the river to the bank; as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court, the silt will be used to fill up mining spots, he said. Beneficiary farmers of TB Project met and a seminar was conducted on the matter, recommendations of which have been sent to the government.
