TRS Monday observed the birth
anniversary of the late Telangana ideologue K Jayashankar
today. Speaking at a function at the party office here, TRS
president K Chandrasekhar Rao paid rich tributes to
Jayashankar. The TRS president, who has been saying that he had
received "signals" from the Centre about the imminent
formation of separate Telangana state, stated today that he
was maintaining `a strategic silence' over the statehood
agitation. Jayashankar, an academician, had vigorously campaigned
for the separate state during his lifetime. Maintaining that Centre had given him an assurance about
formation of the state after the Vice Presidential poll, the
TRS president had said yesterday that if the assurance was not
fulfilled, the agitation would be stepped up. "The Prime Minister had asked us to let peaceful
atmosphere prevail (in Andhra Pradesh) for the Centre to take
a decision. So, we are waiting patiently. We got an assurance
over formation of Telangana after the Vice Presidential poll.If they give Telangana, fine. Otherwise, we will continue
fighting for it," he said, addressing a gathering at Nizamabad
yesterday.
