HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Press Club premises reverberated with Samaikyandhra slogans after a few Telangana journalists reportedly disrupted a media conference being held there by the Visalandhra Mahasabha on Tuesday.Around 10.30 am, Choudhary Kumar and a few other representatives of Visalandhra Mahasabha, led by its president Parakala Prabhakar convened a press conference to give details of their upcoming media workshop.During the meet, some Telangana journalists demanded that Choudhary Kumar tender an apology for allegedly thrashing a Telangana journalist at a press meet held here a week ago. Charging that the Telangana journalists were acting deliberately to disrupt the meet, Choudhary Kumar started giving Samaikyandhra slogans. He refused to tender an apology saying the Punjagutta police had been investigating a case filed in that regard. (Three reporters lodged a police complaint alleging that Parakala Prabhakar and Choudhary Kumar had thrashed them when they were asking questions at a press meet on Oct 11.) Meanwhile, as tension built up, the Punjagutta police rushed to the place and took Choudhary Kumar into their custody as a preventive measure. Continuing the meet, Parakala Prabhakar said 50 percent of the people in Telangana were supporting united Andhra Pradesh. It was only a few separatists who were creating disturbances in the name of a separate state.Requesting the reporters to cooperate with them, Prabhakar said anyone could conduct media conferences in the city and it was not an unlawful act.He said a media workshop and an exhibition on the topic protect united state would be held at Jubilee Hall in Public Gardens on October 22 and 23.Intellectuals from Telangana were also collaborating with the Visalandhra Mahasbha to organise various events to create awareness among the people, he added. Meanwhile, police were deployed in and around the Press Club to prevent untoward incidents.
