BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Wednesday decided to launch yet another initiative, ‘the Odisha State Treatment Fund’ under which persons from below poverty line (BPL) families suffering from serious diseases will be given financial assistance up to Rs 3 lakh.A decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Naveen Niwas here. Persons suffering from cancer, kidney ailments and heart diseases will be able to avail of assistance from the fund. The scheme will be launched in December.The Government has also decided to introduce management information system (MIS) in all blood banks to make the blood procurement process hassle free. Latest information about availability of blood of different groups can be accessed once MIS is introduced.It was decided that 114 mobile health units (MHUs) will be engaged in the inaccessible areas of the State. Till now 101 MHUs have been pressed into service and the rest will be deployed soon. A decision was taken on use of global monitoring system (GMS) to keep a tab on services rendered by the MHUs. The Chief Minister also reviewed the implementation of the Biju Gramin Swasthya Sibir programme launched by the Government for providing health services to people in rural areas. As per the scheme, health camps should be organised in each of the 147 Assembly constituencies. So far, camps have been organised in 47 constituencies. It has been decided to depute observers to assess the impact of these camps.The Chief Minister directed senior officials of the Health Department to regularly monitor the use of different modern machineries installed in hospitals.Besides, issues including increasing seats in different medical colleges and development of necessary infrastructure were discussed.
