BANGALORE: Toto Funds the Arts (TFA) invites submissions for its eighth annual arts awards for young photographers, writers, musicians and bands. There are six awards to be won — one for music (Rs. 50,000), two for photography (Rs. 25,000 each), two for creative writing in English (Rs. 25,000 each), and one for creative writing in Kannada (Rs. 25,000).All submissions must be original and must be received before 10 October, 2011. Young Indian nationals between the ages of 18 and 29 are eligible to apply.TFA is a non-profit trust set up in 2004 in memory of Angirus ‘Toto’ Vellani, who was intensely passionate about music, literature and film. It nurtures and encourages young artists in India through awards, workshops and other events. In a tragic accident in 2004, Toto passed away. TFA is the memory of his love, and of the pleasure he took in art, in people, and in creation.TFA began giving awards in 2005, with an award for music. In 2006 they added two awards for creative writing and photography. As the number of awards grew, they became increasingly aware of a community of young artists from across the country, eager to hone their talent and share their work with a larger audience. All the awards are judged by external juries composed of leading practitioners of and experts in the particular art. For more details, visit www.totofundsthearts.blogspot.com.
