TN to oppose CET for engineering

COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu is all set to oppose the proposal to introduce the Indian Science-Engineering Eligibility Test (ISEET) at the Conference of State Education Ministers in New Delhi next week.The decision is on the lines of the State’s earlier opposition to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for MBBS courses.Introducing the ISEET from 2013 to ensure that students in the country do not appear for multiple entrance examinations for admission into engineering and science degree courses is one of the top agendas to be taken up at the conference on February 22.The Union Human Resource Development Ministry had favoured introducing ISEET in two parts - Main and Advanced - on the recommendations of a committee headed by T Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi.Policymakers in Tamil Nadu are arguing that introducing a Common Entrance Test would be detrimental to the interests of students hailing from rural parts of the State.
