Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday expressed hope that a time would come when her government’s views would be taken seriously by the Centre. She made the remark while speaking at a mega event to mark the 14th anniversary of Jaya TV wherein music maestros of Tamil film industry, M S Viswanathan and T K Ramamurthy, were honoured.
Jayalalithaa said last year she had recommended Padma awards for the duo but the Centre, in its wisdom, thought otherwise. “The denial of national awards for these veterans really pains me… there will be a time when the government at the Centre would listen to my words and I will ensure that these veterans are honoured with Padma awards,” Jayalalithaa said amidst thunderous applause.
Giving an account of how she was associated with the music of MSV and TKR for many decades, she quoted many glorious moments in the life of these musicians.
“Just like one grows with their parents and relatives, starting from my childhood, I grew up with the music of these veterans. Their music has become part of my very being,” she said emotionally. The period of Viswanathan and Ramamurthy would be regarded as ‘the golden age of film music’, she said.
