During the interrogation, it was revealed that they were staying in Perumbavoor to murder Ratheesh, of Malayattoor, for the past few weeks. Ratheesh had threatened to kill a person named Abu, of Vallam, Ernakulam. Consequently, Abu hired Anas to kill Ratheesh.
According to the Crime Branch Circle Inspector, Anas was offered `10 lakh, and `35,000 was given as advance.
“On Anas’ direction, Halim and Shamnad came to Perumbavoor. They had planned to kill Ratheesh near the court at Perumbavoor when he appears for a case. Then they changed their plan owing to the risk of getting arrested in Perumbavoor. But they remained in
Perumbavoor to plan the murder and to get a vehicle from Abu,” said Biju K Stephen.

The money was suspected to have been raised for the trial of the Kashmir recruitment case.
Though the police had arrested all the other accused in the case, including Thadiyantavide Shamim, brother of Thadiyantavide Nazir, Halim was hiding in a remote area near Mangalore. Shamnad was involved in 12 terror cases and was absconding after being released on bail in two cases.
