HYDERABAD: An IPS probationer’s husband slapped, punched and tore the uniform of his wife’s colleague after the latter allegedly made derogatory remarks against her at the prestigious National Police Academy (NPA) here on Monday.The incident unfolded right in front of a shocked faculty and probationers at the IPS officers’ mess. The trainee cop at the receiving end of the stick belongs to the 2010 batch and is from Uttar Pradesh. According to sources, he had allegedly been resorting to “character assassination” of his female colleague for the past two months. Though she had lodged oral complaints with the faculty of the NPA, not once but thrice, no action was taken. The “incorrigible” young man allegedly made some nasty remarks against her again on Sunday. This time, she informed her husband, a Delhi-based businessman, who flew down to Hyderabad and drove straight to the officers’ mess where the young probationer was present.Sources said he walked up to the probationer, grabbed him by his collar, punched and slapped him and tore his uniform, all the while hurling abuses at him. Taken aback, the faculty members and other probationers soon recovered and overpowered the man. The authorities found his reaction unacceptable and initially, decided to hand him over to the police. However, after several rounds of negotiations, they finally decided not to lodge a complaint fearing that the reputation of the institution could be tarnished.
