KOCHI: A line of people queue up outside a police station and a passerby asks another if it were a beverage outlet. This is a dig at the Paravoor sex scandal that is rocking Kerala today. Ravi T K’s cartoon on the sex scandal has never seen the light of day. But for a few which found their way into ‘Deshabhimani’ and ‘Mathrubhumi’, his cartoons hardly get published. For Ravi drawing cartoons is only a hobby.  Seated in a corner of the office in a security guard’s uniform Ravi is on his toes. Who would have thought that the man who guards an office day and night dreams of changing society?.“My family never encouraged me saying that drawing cartoons would be a waste of time and money as there were hardly any chances of winning recognition.”Ravi’s desire for drawing cartoons comes from deep within, the ingrained sense of responsibility to society. He always questions the injustices seen around him in his works. He loved drawing caricatures of political figures even in childhood and when he saw the darker sides of life, he gave vent to his feelings in his cartoons. for Ravi wants to change society for the better.“My dream is to make a difference in society. through cartoons. I was a strong political worker during my youth. I have always believed that more action is the need of the hour. But when some political leaders don’t stick to their ideologies but do mere lip service, it is sad,” Ravi said.Ravi, who was working as a newspaper agent for many years took a job as a security guard recently. He draws cartoons whenever he gets time. The 57-year-old father of two also channels his creativity in other areas. “I like writing poems too, they are a reflection of my personal life, on the desire to live life to the fullest,” he said.Ravi’s dreams are yet to materialsie. “I am like a child who still has many unfullfilled desires. I want to be recognised for the talent I have, but situations in life never gave me a chance. I have a sick wife, a son who turned his back on us and no proper place to stay. And what hurts me most is that I lost most of my works when I had to sell my house to pay for my daughters wedding expenses.”Ravi, a silent man easily gets affected by the happenings around him, especially when tragedies strike. During those moments I feel very lonely, being an emotional person. It is in these sad times, that the pent up feelings transform into art.” But Ravi still has not lost confidence in his talent and the fact that he might be able to make a mark in society some day. “I have a certain attitude towards life that lets me look at it with a positive outlook,” he said.
