THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram director P Parameswaran has alleged that Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal and the Delhi Imam were playing the same communal card.In a statement here on Monday, he said that the contemporary political scene in India was a matter of grave concern to all those who were keeping the country’s interest in mind. The situation is the same, whether it is in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh or Assam or other states, he said. Parameswaran said that the induction of the fifth Muslim League Minister into the Cabinet was not an isolated event."The controversy over the matter is not just a storm in a tea cup as politicians might like us to believe,’’ he said.He said that Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav was forced to surrender to the Shahi Imam of Delhi by conceding Imam’s son-in-law a Rajya Sabha seat though Mulayam had at first announced another name for the seat. Shahi Imam has also demanded ‘adequate’ proportional representation for Muslims in the State Legislature as well.Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister, has practically offered the same with a view to securing the support of the entire Muslim community. Muslim League here is closely following the example of Shahi Imam by projecting Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal to wrest more and more favours. They have already been successful in getting a centre of Aligarh Muslim University established in Malappuram district.
