National Investigation Agency officer Tanzil Ahmed was most likely killed due to personal enmity. Sources in the NIA claim that it is unlikely that there was a terror or a political angle attached to the murder.
While the Uttar Pradesh Police had earlier suspected that the two attackers were seen in the video which it had accessed from a wedding that the officer attended, sources have now denied the possibility.
After scanning a footage recorded during a wedding that the officer attended, the police had claimed that they had zeroed in on two young men who they suspected were behind the attack.
The Uttar Pradesh Police is hoping it will have some concrete leads in the case soon. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Javeed Ahmad said two weapons were used to attack the NIA officer including a 9 mm pistol which is a banned firearm. "A .32 bore weapon and a 9 mm pistol were used by the assailants," he said.
The incident had taken place when Ahmed, earlier posted as an assistant commandant in BSF and on deputation to NIA, was returning to his home in Sahaspur village of Bijnor district with his family after attending his niece's wedding in a nearby village in the same district. Bijnor is about 150 kms from Delhi.
