Sushma to canvass in Parkal

HYDERABAD: Leader of the opposition in the LoK Sabha Sushma Swaraj will visit the Parkal Assembly constituency in Warangal district to drum up support for the BJP candidate. The date of her visit is, however, yet to be finalised. The party leadership is also yet to announce the name of the candidate for the byelection to be held on June 12.With its relations with the TRS straining, the BJP is taking the election as a challenge and is preparing to deploy all its leaders and cadre of affiliated organisations for canvassing.The core committee of the party’s state unit met here on Monday under the chairmanship of state president G Kishan Reddy and reviewed the political situation in the Telangana region and the political scene in Parkal. The committee decided to expose the vote-bank politics being played by the TRS and appeasement of minorities.Speaking to reporters after the meeting, BJP national secretary K Laxman alleged that the TRS was not genuinely committed to the welfare or political empowerment of minorities in the region. He recalled that in the Legislative Council elections the TRS had fielded a minority candidate but its MLAs voted for the Congress. Earlier,  TRS minority leader Rehaman had quit as MLC on the Telangana issue but the party did not recognise his sacrifice, forcing him to quit the party ultimately.The TRS contested the last general election in alliance with the TDP and fielded a minority candidate in the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency where it did not have winning chances, Laxman said.
