BANGALORE: In an effort to implement knowledge about the Parliamentary sessions, Young Men’s Christain Association (YMCA) in association with Rotary Bangalore Peenya organised 27th ‘Model Lok Sabha 2011’ here at YMCA on Wednesday.Inaugurating the parliament, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar said “Miracles can be done through legislations. We detest politics and politicians but we cannot lead our life without politics. Youngsters are tomorrow’s leaders and it is necessary that they all know how the parliament functions. Lessons on parliamentary affairs should be introduced at all college levels.”“Parliament is just looked as the place where people fight by tearing each other’s shirt and that attitude has disappointed me,” Suresh Kumar said. The students of the opposition slammed the Ruling Party by asking the Ruling Party’s stand on continuing corruption, engulfing the public administration, preservation of data collected through Aadhar scheme without any misuse by unscrupulous persons, increasing trend of misusing the provisions of Domestic Violence Act & Dowry Harassment by women and many such questions. The model Lok Sabha came to an end with key ministers in the ruling party presenting resolutions on issues such as reservation, economic growth, corruption among others. The valediction was presided over by former Supreme Court Judge S Rajendra Babu. “It is really heartening to see the future parliamentarians engage in a healthy debate on current issues. Such models will help youngsters know the parliamentary process and current issues,” he said. He further added that it was unfortunate that the real parliamentary process was losing its sheen. “Similar to the way today’s model was conducted, the Ruling Party at the centre has to be a good listener to the Opposition, and vice-versa. I am sure students gained a lot from attending this event,” Rajendra Babu  said at the event. Students AwardedMore than 150 students from 10 city colleges participated in the model Parliament. The award for the best participant in ruling went to Poornashree from Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies, while Manjunath from BMS Law College bagged with the Best Participant in opposition award in the debate.
