BHUBANESWAR: Minister of State for Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Ramesh Chandra Majhi on Saturday told the Assembly that 46 lakh litres of milk was being produced daily in the State as against requirement of 84 lakh litres. To a query from Amar Prasad Satpathy (NCP), the Minister said by July, there were 4,923 milk producers’ cooperative societies. As many as 2,55,205 milk farmers are members of the societies. Stating that several steps had been taken to increase milk production in the State, the Minister said quality cattle resources were being produced through the National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB). Besides, calf rearing programme has also been taken up by the State Government, he said. Majhi said cattle development programme has been taken up in 10 districts by implementing the ‘Kalyani Yojana’.
