GULBARGA: Wadi police had to literally run for cover on Tuesday for conducting raids on jewellery shops at Narayanpet in Andhra Pradesh.
On Tuesday, a police team from Wadi led by subinspector Srimant Illal took two suspected women thieves to Narayanpet where they had allegedly sold gold articles stolen from Wadi to jewellery shops.According to a witness at Narayanpet, Wadi PSI Illal, who was in an inebriated state, misbehaved with the gold merchants who attacked him.

The PSI managed to get into the jeep and tried to open fire in the air with his revolver. But the people seized the revolver and manhandled him. The people handed over the PSI, two constables and the two alleged thieves to Narayanpet police.

They alleged that police from Karnataka frequently visit their shops and harass them. A gold merchant Jabarsab Chand lodged a separate complaint against Illal stating that the PSI threatened him with a revolver. It is said that the gold merchants have CCTV footage of the incident.

Gulbarga SP Praveen Pawar. Pawar told Express that miscreants damaged the police jeep. NorthEast Range IGP Gagandeep told Express that Illal lodged a complaint against Jewellery Merchants' Association.
