Sports meet for special children held

BANGALORE:  More than one thousand physically challenged children took part in a special sports meet organised by the Department of Welfare for Disabled and Senior Citizens in association with the Department of Women and Child Welfare  to mark World Disability Day 2011 at Kanteerava Stadium on Thursday.The special children participated in wheel chair race, walk with walking stick, ball in the bucket, short put and javelin throw. Winners were awarded trophies and all participants were given consolation prizes. The event was inaugurated by Venkatesh M Machakanur, Director, Department of Welfare for Disabled and Senior Citizens, Ramesh Halabhavi, Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Welfare and international athlete N Umakanth.
