THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On its third day in session, the State Legislature had some special guests in the form of a South African delegation. In the morning, members of the Oversight Committee of the Premier’s Office, Gauteng Province, watched the one-hour Question and Answer Session from the VIP Gallery. Language appeared to be a big problem as the business was conducted in Malayalam, but the visitors were treated to some action when Opposition members stormed the well of the House flaying Health Minister Adoor Prakash’s remark linking fever deaths with alcoholism. Speaker G Karthikeyan had drawn attention to the distinguished guests led by Committee chairman Godfrey Tsotetsi, which drew cheerful raps on the tables from the MLAs. Chief Whip Brian Hlongwa and Members of Provincial Legislature (MPL) John Moodey, Moraine, Jack Bloom, Lyndall Shope and Rose Gudlhuza were the other members of the delegation. The South African team is touring the state from September 24 to 30 as part of a study tour on developmental states and e-governance/e-parliament. During a meeting, the Speaker explained that the Kerala Legilture would soon webcast live the Assembly proceedings.
