City Police on Friday registered an accidental death case in connection with the Sindhurakshak tragedy which claimed four lives, while there were no traces of remaining 14 personnel onboard the ill-fated submarine.

"A case of accidental death under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.Pc) was registered in Cuffe Parade police station," Additional Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash said. The case was registered on a complaint filed by Gopal Singh Rajput, a doctor in the frontline submarine, the officer added.

In one of the worst disasters to have struck the Indian Navy, a series of explosions rocked the Russian-made Kilo class submarine at the dockyard in Mumbai early Wednesday, sinking it partially in the shallow sea. Four disfigured bodies were extricated from the submarine, which had 18 personnel onboard at the time of the incident. The bodies have been shifted to naval hospital INS Ashwini for DNA sampling for facilitating identification.
