Mumbai: It started out as a regular music launch for the film Jimmy at Radio Club Mumbai on Friday, yesteryear superhero Mithun Chakraborty’s son Mimoh’s debut film.
The prominent turnout included Rajpal Yadav, Priya Dutt and Bobby Deol.
Suddenly, at the tail end of the event, things went haywire. Shakti Kapoor was present there as well since he makes a fleeting appearance in the film.
Salim Akhtar (of Batwara, Jigar, and Raja Ki Ayengi Baarat fame) is one of the producers with whom Mimoh will be working in the future. They came to blows and soon it turned into a free-for-all.
“I had overheard Shakti Kapoor saying some foul things about me. People know I am peace loving by nature. Yet, my ego could not handle this insult. So when I got a chance, I lashed out at him,” said Salim Akhtar.
Shakti Kapoor had his defense ready as well. “I was about to leave the party when someone touched my back. When I turned around, I was slapped. I was stunned to see Salimbhai in front of me. I was speechless for a few seconds. I tried talking to him but it was of no use. Since I was provoked without any cause, I reacted by slapping him back,” he said.
At this point, a lot of strangers entered the fray and started bashing up Salim. It was a case of mistaken identity as bystanders mistook him for a gatecrasher.
Director Raj N Sippy, Ravi Kissan and a few people who were present, tried to save the producer but they were out numbered. In the end, Salim fled from the spot and filed a complaint at the Colaba Police Station.
